Flammability Limits of Combustible Gases

Flammability limits, also called explosive limits, give the proportion or volume of combustible gas mixtures in air.  Between these limits the mixture is flammable.  The lower limit or LEL describes the leanest mixture that is still flammable, while the upper limit or UEL describes the richest flammable mixture.  Below the LEL, there is not enough fuel to support combustion.  Above the UEL, the mixture is too rich.
